Summer Reading Challenge 2025

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the summer holidays, ensuring they are ready for a great start to the new term in the autumn. Children set a reading goal and collect rewards for reading anything they enjoy. Children can sign up at their local library and it’s FREE to take part.

Are you ready for an adventure!

The Story Garden!

- Get ready to grow your imagination with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, created by the Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries. Children aged 4–11 are invited to join us at Newham Libraries for a summer full of stories, creativity and fun. This year’s theme is the Story Garden, where imagination blossoms and stories grow!

Also our little Story Sprouts under 4 won’t miss out! We’ve got special activities designed just for them—because it’s never too early to start a reading journey. Every story you share helps spark their imagination, boost their language skills, and plant the seeds for a lifelong love of reading.

How to take part

- Sign up at your local Newham Library and start your reading adventure. Keep reading throughout the summer to collect rewards and complete the challenge! Visit us in person to borrow books, receive your prizes and take part in exciting activities that bring the Story Garden to life.
